The Cosmic Society of Paranormal Investigation (CSOPI) was invited to investigate a haunted dwelling with WMAR Channel 2 News Maryland on April 20th 1997.WMAR filmed our investigation to be aired on the 11:00 News immediately following the premier showing of Stephen King's "The Shining" on April 28th, 1997. We arrived on Friday the 19th and spent Saturday gearing up for the investigation that evening. Scott Broom and his cameraman Paul
met us at 5:00 p.m. and we set off for the location.....

The dwelling was a 200+ year old house in the Forest Hills section of Maryland. After equipment set-up by ourselves and Channel 2, Donna Quinn began interviewing the homeowners as to what was witnessed by the family. It seemed that all of the family members had viewed phenomena in the house over the course of the past 15 years. The daughter seemed to have been the center of alot of it, with much of the activity directed at her and/or her belongings. She reported playing with the spirit of a young blonde girl as a child (not knowing it was a ghost. to her she seemed like any other normal playmate). Her shoes and schoolbooks were continually disappearing at the most inconvenient times and the daughter was always suffering the punishment of having lost these missing items, against many protestations. As she grew older, so did her uncomfort with the ghostly activity. Her bedroom was no longer a safe-haven, but a place she feared, especially the adjoining attic, which could only be reached through her room. She began barricading the door to the attic stairs, and always slept with the lights on. She finally started avoiding the room altogether and eventually her mother closed up the room, locking the door and no one entered for a period of about one year. Upon reentering, they were amazed to find a doll collection removed from floor to ceiling shelves and in a broken pile on the floor..all the heads, arms and legs had been pulled off and were scattered about the room. The mother told of how, when the had first moved into the house in 1984, she was unpacking boxes from her bedroom, she could see her daughter's bedroom door swing open, swing shut, latch itself, and begin again...after watching this in amazement for about half an hour, she yelled for it to STOP! and it stopped. Other phenomena witnessed by family members include items moving of their own accord, such as the time a pen rolled back and forth across the dining room table at first very slowly, continuing to increase in speed until it shot out of the room! The TV channel changer has been flung across the living room a few times, a glass of beer was seen shooting from one end of the table to other, and night after night after all the children were asleep in bed, the house tidyed from the days activities, the family would awake to find a childs drinking cup in the middle of the kitchen floor with water spilled out, over and over, knowing full well that it had been cleaned and put away the night before. There were many instances of missing articles besides the daughter's shoes and books that never appeared again, including the father's wedding ring which he put in a little cup everynight, he actually gave up on finding it and was resigned to buy himself a new one. This man was actually a huge skeptic for quite awhile, not wanting to put much stock in things paranormal, until a few incidents happened directly to him. One morning as he was sitting at the dining room table putting on his shoes and socks for work, he saw the ghost of a man staring back at him from his living room. His wife corroborated this and said she had seen an elderly man around the house on a number of occasions. Also it seemed no matter what household chore the husband was attempting to do, whatever he tried to fix or put together, he seemed to be prevented from accomplishing. His tools would turn up missing if he turned his back for a second, machinery broke, lawn and yard equipment continually failed outside. They told how they had never actually had their entire lawn mowed since they've lived here! One day, in exasperation of experiencing a whole day of this "sabotage", he dropped everything, gathered up the whole family and they left the premises...and stayed in a hotel for the night. The wife has also seen the apparition of a woman they dubbed "Elizabeth" to appease the children who have seen and sensed her presence also. One of the most interesting and even amusing stories related to us was about the time they went shopping at a local Ames store. The family strolled through the store, and as they passed each aisle, items began jumping, falling, and flying off the shelves..they would quickly move on to the next aisle and the activity increased..thinking they would get blamed for the mess and broken items, they quickly exited the store. The mother then told us how she would instruct "Elizabeth" to "stay in the car" at every shopping trip thereafter.
The main part of the house is over 200 years old, you can see the old-fashioned wood pegs in the hand-made beams, and its obvious that the center part of the home has great age. Additions were built on, and the owners have a deed from 1827. The neighbors whose relatives
owned the house, described an elderly couple who lived there with their grandaughter, a blonde
girl, who died of an illness at age 5 in the home. The older couple then remained in the house until the time of their deaths. It is these 3 spirits who are believed to be haunting the residence.

Before embarking on this trip, CSOPI had 2 independent psychics remotely scan this property for their impressions. One associate sensed an elderly man, a hard worker with much manual labor, wearing brown corderouy overalls, unhealthy looking, high cheekbones, long hands and knuckles, lots of unhappiness and lonliness (emotions often found in a haunting) due to the fact he had worked so hard he had no time for family. He was "the man of the house". He was seen by the psychic as standing near an upper story chimny pipe or stove in the interior of the house. The seer was adamant that this was not an outer chimney, not visible from any exterior walls of the home. She felt this man had died of asphyxiation/smoke inhalation from this chimney pipe. She told me he was very excited that CSOPI was coming to visit..but that he could not understand why the media would be there. She said he might be mischevious during our stay. She also said she perceived train tracks...which we were told by the family bordered the property on one side. Another psychic, Gary-Alan said he saw an older woman, who seemed very worn-out and forlorn in her old age. He did not sense any danger for us, and that there was more than one spirit in the home.

CSOPI, Scott Broom, and the cameraman were given a thorough tour of the house, inside and out. The home was in desparate need of repair, but as it was explained to us, everytime repair was attempted, something always went wrong. Donna and Carrie took a total of 13 rolls of film, while video taping, audio recording, and using EMF meter. Nothing too unusual happened (probably to the regret of WMAR) except while photographing the attic Donna felt a great pressure on her forhead and an immense headache which forced her to exit the attic (practically knocking the camera guy down as she went! haha) She returned to normal about one minute after leaving the attic and sitting on a nearby bed. CSOPI recognized this to be confirmation of an entity's presence. Also while outside photographing the property, Donna called outloud to "Mr. Smithson" (name of previous owner) and said "Hey, if you want to show up on the film, nows a good time!" Right after this, a loud "BONG" was heard on a metal drum that stood outside of the barn. We left the home at 12:00 midnight.

Upon returning to our hotel, we could not get the electronic key to open the door. After many unsuccessful attempts, Donna ran down and had the night manager get a new key and come and try it for us..he was unsuccessful also. We tried yet another key..when that didn't work he was about to call his supervisor who lived about 10 minutes away..finally the door opened on our final try. We poured ourselves a glass of wine and sat down to discuss the days events..while doing so we heard the sound of coins jingling and dropping coming from the bathroom and on the bed farthest away from where we were sitting..Carrie took a few photos, which came out blurry..but nothing substantial enough to say for sure..

WMAR took all the film and had their choice of developer process it. A new cameraman and Scott Broom came to our hotel room at 9:00 a.m. the next day. They filmed our reaction to the photos as we each sifted through them. We captured at least 4 "globules", one of them the last photo taken by Donna as she exited the attic feeling ill. The others were captured outside of the home.

The purpose of this investigation was to try and obtain proof of spiritual activity in the home, and add credence to what the owners have been experiencing over the years. The wife was asked if she had any intentions of ridding her home of these long deceased entities, and she explained she is not frightened in any way by the haunting. She has been extremely reluctant to share this situation with others for fear of ridicule of her family. They wanted to be taken seriously and wanted any proof that could be obtained that what are saying is true. CSOPI feels we obtained sufficient proof on film to coincide with their story, and we believe that spirit energy presented itself in the photos. As far as WMAR Channel 2 News, we are still exasperatingly waiting for a copy of the segment, which has already aired. When this is received, and after we have had a chance to view our own video from this investigation we will update this article.
